About ACUI

The Association of College Unions International brings together college union and  activities professionals from nearly 1,000 schools worldwide. ACUI is a not-for-profit  educational organization that was founded in 1914. Known more for its diversity than its size, the Association has member institutions in a number of countries. ACUI members work at and attend urban and rural campuses, in two-year and four-year institutions, in large universities and small colleges. They are union directors, student personnel administrators, and students. They are student activities directors, food service administrators, program coordinators, fiscal officers, recreation managers, programming board members, student employees, and deans. ACUI is the professional association that can serve them all because it is dedicated to enhancing campus life through programs, services, and publications the common goal unifying the union and activities fields.

ACUI is divided into 15 geographical regions, each with its own regional representative. This regional structure encourages the participation of students as well as union staff in ACUI programs, activities, and leadership positions. Through regional committees,  conferences, and newsletters, students and staff learn about the role of the college union on campus and share in fulfilling that role.

Region 15

The Association of College Unions International (ACUI) Region 15 consists of nearly 50 member colleges and universities - public, private, small and large - and nearly 500 individual students and staff. Member institutions are from Hawaii, Nevada, California, Guam and Australia. From mountains to oceans, deserts to lakes, ACUI is a diverse geographical region represented by communities of diverse people. The strength of ACUI Region 15 is in the diverse make-up of it's membership.

Our region is one of 15 total in ACUI. To facilitate community building and information exchange, ACUI is divided into these geographical regions, each with its own regional director. This regional structure encourages the participation of students as well as union/activities staff in ACUI programs, activities, and leadership positions. Through the Regional Leadership Team, committees, conferences like this one, the website and the newsletter, students and staff learn about the role of the college union/student activities on campus and share in fulfilling that role.

What is the college union? The union is the community center of the college campus, serving students, faculty, staff, alumni, and guests. By whatever form or name, a college union is an organization offering a variety of programs, activities, and services that, when taken together, represent a well-considered plan for the community life of the college.

ACUI Region 15 recognizes the college union in its many shapes and sizes. Not having a building does not mean you don't have a union. Many schools offer excellent union activities and programs without facilities. Often they do it with a lot less than some larger institutions - less money, less staff, less facilities - and may do it just as well or better. The solutions don't always involve more money, more staff time, or more facilities. Most often the solutions are based on more creativity, more resourcefulness, and a higher level of commitment.
